How to change your username on X

Before you change it

  1. ✓X usernames currently use letters, numbers, and underscores.
  2. ✓The handle is separate from the display name.
  3. ✓Prepare updates for embeds, bios, and campaign links.

Change the username

  1. 1Open Settings and privacy, then Your account.
  2. 2Open Account information and Username.
  3. 3Enter an available username and save.

After the change

  1. ✓Test the new profile URL signed out.
  2. ✓Update social icons and author bios.
  3. ✓Monitor replies that mention the old handle.
