How to change your YouTube handle

Change a YouTube @handle without confusing it with the channel name or legacy URL.

Before you change it

  1. ✓YouTube currently allows two handle changes in 14 days.
  2. ✓The handle is unique; the channel name is not.
  3. ✓Review handle rules before releasing an established name.

Change the username

  1. 1Sign in to YouTube Studio.
  2. 2Open Customization, then Profile.
  3. 3Edit Handle and select Publish.

After the change

  1. ✓YouTube holds the previous handle for 14 days for a possible switch back.
  2. ✓Both old and new handle URLs work during that period.
  3. ✓Update external links even when redirects exist.
